With the expectation of cooler weather, 152 participants arrived to challenge our hill /bult! Unfortunately someone forgot to tell Wellington that it was supposed to be cooler and we ended up with another scorcher of a day!
The event was supported by 33 first timers as well as a number of guests. We were visited by a veteran parkrunner Tracey Rankin who has completed a whopping 216 parkruns! Thank you for visiting Tracey! She definitely found our hill extra special!
We had one of our very dedicated youth runners, Divan (pictured above with Tracey) in second place showing the men how it’s done – looking forward to seeing you out in front again Divan!
Chad Lahana from parkrun Big Bay came through for the challenge but admitted the heat was slightly higher than he was used to – I think we will probably have to wait until the cooler months before we see him return ……
That being said we had 2 guests from England who ran a week before in -2 degrees – talk about acclimatizing! As you can see he managed to give our camera man a smile.
As always our very dedicated volunteers were en route to shout encouragement and direct the way!
The dogs made a pitstop at the Dam to take a dip and have a reprieve from the heat.
This young man ran all the way barefoot and determinedly made all 5km without once being assisted by his dad- even up the hill, well done!
Despite the heat we had 28 personal bests – can’t wait to see what times they do in the cooler months.
Wellington parkrun is growing every week and it is a pleasure to welcome you all every Saturday. Thank you for your support and to our volunteers – you are awesome, we couldn’t do this without you.
Remember folks, parkrun is for EVERYONE – please bring your family, friends, colleagues and furry babies along for an hour of fresh air and sunshine. Let’s keep up the momentum and get everyone you know to come out and enjoy one of the most beautiful parkrun’s in SA!
A few reminders – bring extra water, a sun hat and sunscreen and please keep your furry friends on a leash – one per runner. If you have some extra time, join us for an iced coffee, or if you are a die hard coffee drinker – a hot coffee afterwards.
