On 9 April 2016 Paarl's inaugural parkrun was launched at the beautiful Arboretum. Mayoress Gesie van Deventer kicked off the morning by welcoming everyone and also took part in this special occasion.
Afterwards, the well-known Bruce Fordyce took over and entertained the parkrunners with his sense of humour. A total of 704 parkrunners were at the launch, making Paarl parkrun one of the top parkruns to achieve such a big crowd!
Paarl parkrun was also privileged to have the Fordham family from Richmond parkrun in the UK at the launch. Our first runner finished in 16:20 minutes, setting the first record to beat at Paarl parkrun! Paarl parkrun wants to say thank you to every parkrunner who attended the launch and made this occasion such a huge success! A big thank you to each volunteer – your time and effort for each parkrun is being appreciated! Paarl parkrun hopes to see everyone again at our second parkrun on 16 April 2016, starting at 08:00 at the Paarl Arboretum. Rain or sunshine, we parkrun!
