Hermanus parkrun, Event #227, 29th February 2020

A very windy start to Leap Year parkrun day at Hermanus parkrun yesterday. This week 266 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 44 were first timers and 30 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part. It is the first time in parkrun history that parkrunday is leap day! Embrace that, as the next leap day parkrunday will be on 29 February 2048!

There were visitors from UK, Germany and Australia. As well as visitors from other parkruns in South Africa, there were also family and friends of people taking part in the Hemel & Aarde Valley marathon. Dorothea Deschermeier, our German visitor, set a new record in the category VW80-84. Well done Dorothea!!!

Congratulations to Angelique Mowers as well as John and Mary Moat on celebrating their 50th parkrun yesterday and to our junior Harry McConnell on completing his 10th. Your certificate will be handed out as soon as we obtain new certificates.

Thank you to our 26 volunteers for your support.

We encourage our parkrunners to wear purple next parkrun day, 7th March, in honour of International Women's Day.

In a nutshell: this week 309 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 24 were first timers and 27 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 11 different clubs took part.
TWO-day, celebrated by many events as tu-tu-day, was yet another beautiful late summer morning in the Hemel and Aarde Valley where we welcomed a field of 309 participants of whom 6 add an international flavour to the mix. A further 47 visitors from around the country were welcomed. Guests in the house were 89 participants not registered or who forgot their barcodes.
Congratulations to Leon Brandon DUBE and Talitha VAN TONDER for repeating their first finishing positions of last week – the theme of TWO continues! Kudos to Micheal BEINEKE and Evie HUNT being the first two in junior age categories to cross the finish line.
We accept that parkrun is a run and not a race therefore we celebrate the 27 participants in the field who recorded new Personal Bests. The benefit of having your barcode at hand is that you can monitor your own participation and progress. Well done!
Welcome to parkrun, the 7 participants who took their first parkrun steps today and swiped their barcodes. Congratulations to the three most experienced participants today, Jan SMUTS (211), Willie LOEDOLFF (217) and Jack PROCTOR (244).
15 participants today are from the running clubs Asics VOB, Bellville AC, Bredasdorp AC, Century City AC, Helderberg Harriers, Jeppe Quondam AC, K-Way VOB, Spirit Wind AC, Team Vitality and Whalers AC.
Congratulations to Diane Hunter on completing 150 days volunteering at parkrun and thank you for the selfless contribution to parkrun. Having been event ambassador in the Overberg area Diane’s involvement is goes wider than Hermanus only and she is still involved with support to surrounding events.
Two-day Diane was part of the team lead by Dudley MEYER and 24 more dedicated volunteers, being
Wepener VAN DER WALT • Clint FOUCHE • Emmie GOUWS • Mick FYNN • Willie LOEDOLFF • Marianna OLIVIER • Annette DU TOIT • Alan PAULICK • James LUCKHOFF • Francois HOFMEYR • Jonathan JONKER • Retha POTGIETER • Carol SMITH • Eddie LÖTTER • Richard COQUILLON • Wilna VAN EMMENIS • Gert KOK • Les CLARK • Chrissie DE BRUYN • John J RABIE • Johnathon SWINDON • Mercia ROBERTSON • Hennie GROENEWALD • Mitchell YUEN
