Green Point parkrun | Cancelled 15th February 2020

We regret to inform you that this week's parkrun, Sat 15th February, has been cancelled.

We were only informed today, by local SAPS & Traffic Services, that the school event at the athletics stadium will attract 6000+ people from 05h30 onwards and that the precinct won't be able to accommodate the extra influx of people & traffic.

In the past, we have always been informed with enough notice but regrettably, on this occasion, it was not communicated until late this afternoon.

We are working hard to have an alternate route approved but until such time we may have more cancellations due to a large number of events taking place in the precinct.

We will post this message across all our channels and ask that you share this info with all your friends, family and colleagues to ensure we minimize the disappointment.

Please check our Facebook, Instagram, Website, and emails for future updates.

Thank you for volunteering this week and we hope to have your support again for our next event.

Kind Regards,

Jarrod, Chris, Melissa, Blaise, Karen, Patrick, Alex & Carol

Event Cancellation – 20th September 2014

Good Afternoon Green Point parkrunners,

it is with heavy hearts that we have to inform everybody that the parkrun event at Green Point on the 20th is cancelled.

Unfortunately, due to the hive of activity that will be surrounding the stadium and Green Point area brought on by the Cape Town Marathon, we will be unable to safely execute our event. There will be several areas of conflict on our and the CT Marathon event routes which have proven to be impossible barriers to navigate which has led to the decision to outright cancel the event.

If you would still like to take part in a parkrun event, please join our sisters runs at; Big Bay parkrun, Root44 parkrun, Fish Hoek parkrun and Rondebosch Common parkrun. They will be operating as normal and will welcome all of you with open arms!

You can also take part in CT Marathon Peace Relay!

Lastly, we will be organising a social 5k along the promenade. The run will start at the regular parkrun kickoff time of 8am from the Mouille Point Lighthouse and will be an out-and-back along the promenade, to the Sea Point pools and back. We'll be going for coffee at Shift Espresso Bar afterwards, where parkrunners presenting their parkrun barcode will receive a discount on their coffee purchase!

Regular parkrun activity at Green Point parkrun will resume on Saturday 27th September.

Thanks

Ryan

CT Marathon

Hi all you lovely Greenpointers!

The problem with being in such a stunning area is that we have to share it with gazillions of people coming from all over! Frequently! So Please keep an eye for updates about changes this week.

Please park along Main Road P13 and P14 this week.

Many thanks ;-)

Volunteer!

Hi Greenpoint parkrunners,

The volunteers are what allow us to run!

We are still looking for an assistant time-keeper, a finish token assistant and a marshall.

If you came last week you can see we are done in about an hour, then we can all go for coffee/tea.

Its simple, it helps a lot and if you are not sure, come run as usual, then watch what we do before volunteering! When we have enough people you can just join the run, and we can take turns so no-one has to volunteer indefinitely.

No Volunteers= No Run !-)

Detour?

Hi Everyone,

We are still waiting for information from the Council- but still on course for next week! I missed last weekend update, but there was not much to say as we wait. There is a new fence that was put up and we will see if they will allow us to run across the field on the day or go around- which is easy enough to show (and I have measured for it) from the start point. Please do come forward if you are not feeling like running on the day, as we would like to build up our volunteer corps, so that we can all take turns! See you all in just over a week and to see the volunteers before that! Have a great weekend !-)
