Fish Hoek parkrun #320 – 1 February 2020

Don't we have a fantastic group of volunteers here in Fish Hoek?  Many thanks to all of you, who once again helped make our parkrun a success this morning. Even with the slight change in the route, our parkrunners gave their very best and completed the 5 km under the watchful eyes of the marshals and volunteers.

One of our junior runners completed his 10th parkrun, and two others reached their 50 milestones.  Congratulations to Carmen Richmond and Compton Saunders on running their 50th parkrun. IMG_6687

Fish Hoek parkrun #315 – 28 December 2019

A Ballad of Fish Hoek parkrun

On a day that dawned both bright and warm
from far and near came young and old.
A few bees soon became a swarm
’til the field was filled with faces bold.

The starter cried, “Get set! Get gone!”
and we all legged it, full of beans.
For most, it did not last that long—
we wilted; we had not the means

to run the course before us laid
at full tilt, our muscles straining.
A mighty wind, our passage made
prior to our ankles spraining.

And despite the sight of youngsters flyin’
across the turf most found so rough,
The agèd contrived to dodge their dyin’
and proved they also were quite tough.

Yes, parkrun Fish Hoek is a test,
one to always try your mettle;
yet, once done, you’ll feel the best—
and, after, home to light the kettle
and settle down to hard-earned rest.

Next week, there’ll be more of the same
5 kay-ems of sweat and pain
and, once again, we’ll prove we’re game,
and leave our blood upon the plain.
(OK, that’s hyperbole
but, remember, this is poetry;
I work with you, you work with me—
and we’ll go down in history.)

So, until we meet next Saturday,
enjoy your week, whate’er the weather.
Come the day, all stress will fade away
as we parkrun our best together!

The event was made possible by 25 highly pulchritudinous volunteers: Neville Frieslich, Lyn Terry, Keith Noble, Amanda Dovey, Paul Kilfoil, Pete Shannon, Bevan Lill, Andrew Mccann, Andy Roper, Theo Van De Merwe, Caroline Fouché, Brigitte Horne, Mark Baldwin, Rentia Booysen, Juliet Coltham, Alyson Dawson, Ash Courtney, Myrrh Courtney, Basil Murray, Fazlyn Fester, Beverley Mcafee, Mary-Ann West, Liesbet Joubert, Lawrence Walambuka and Amos Undi.
