Hurray for another beautiful winter’s day for a Fish Hoek parkrun.

Our 239th parkrun featured 306 people running, jogging and walking the Fish Hoek course which is a mixture of fields, sandy paths and gravel roads. It's gently undulating terrain with no hills and makes for a great cross country experience. Join us any time!

There were 16 first timers on the day and 54 people recorded new Personal Bests – an amazing stat, we think. Well done to everyone who got a PB and, of course, well done and heartfelt thanks to our band of happy volunteers.

Fish Hoek parkrun 237 is another great success!

On a bright, rosy-cheeked Cape Town winter morning, 275 people ran, jogged and walked our beautiful Fish Hoek course. Women, men, children and a diverse array of doggies enjoyed the best of starts to their weekends (well, that's our story and we're sticking to it).

The event, as always, was only made possible by a dedicated set of volunteers who gave freely of their time, not to mention dragged themselves from their warm beds before the dawn to get everything set up. Kudos to all of you.

Christmas 2016 and New Year Day 2017 parkrun

Fish Hoekers are doing the double - double this Christmas New Year!

There will be a parkrun at Fish Hoek on Christmas Day (8:00am start) and also a parkrun on New Years Day (7:30am start). This time on New Years Day we've planned the start times with Zandvlei (starting at 9am) to have staggered start so that we can all do the double on New Years Day! It's the only time parkrun allows us to do two parkruns on the same day!!

Fish Hoek parkrun Celebrates 2 years

We're two years old!!

Incredible to realise that 103 runs have taken place in Fish Hoek parkrun. During our first year we had our start based at the Sun Valley Primary School parking area. The first and last stretch of 400m was always tough going in the dry summer with soft sand under foot. But as the numbers grew from around 50 to a record of over 200 in January 2015 we had to find a new start / finish area.

So in May we moved to the Fish Hoek Silverglades Sports Fields and we use the Cricket / Hockey Club as a base. It's a wonderfully located community asset and anything we can do as a community to support the Cricket Club is enormously appreciated. Now in the height of summer it's great to sit around outside and socialise and as the winter months approach we'll have a warm home base to retreat into.

With a quadruple growth of regular parkrun participants from the early months two years ago 2016 is set to be a record breaking year.

Many thanks to all the volunteers throughout the year, the cup cake makers, and to everyone who has run a parkrun in 2015 at Fish Hoek. Have a wonderful Christmas and may 2016 bring your best parkrun ever!!

New Year 2016 parkrun at Fish Hoek at 8am

Fish Hoek parkrun will not be hosting Christmas Day parkrun but
we WILL be hosting New Years Day parkrun 1 Jan 2016 starting at 8am.

Record turnout today…

A record number of 211 participants today - who would have believed it. I just read the post from this time last year when we had 47 participants!!!! So pleased everyone enjoying the varied and relatively tough course in the valley.

PLEASE NOTE: Fish Hoek parkrun is CANCELLED for 17th January 2015. The Red Hill Classic 36km and Marathon takes place on same day from 6am with the first finishers expected in around 8am, and their course will overlap with our course and be partially closed off.

We recommend that if you not keen on travelling to another parkrun that you register from 6am on 17th for the Bay Primary School Fun Run which starts at 7am from at the Fish Hoek Silverglades Sports Fields. There is a cost of R20 to enter as it's part of the Red Hill Classic /Marathon day and is a fund raiser for the school - so do support them and get your 5km run /walk in! Medals to first 500 finishers.

Those of you who are happy to travel to another parkrun, Rondebosch Common is a great double lapper for doing faster times, Green Point is also a fast course. Further afield are Blouberg, and Route 44 just outside Stellenbosch.

Bellville parkrun is opening on 17th January, so this could be a great one to be part of. Bruce and Gill Fordyce and many other parkrun tourists will be there for the opening.

Next Fish Hoek parkrun will be on 24 January 2015.

Richard :)
